A Good Report Maketh the Bones Fat – The Bible Amazes Me Again

Proverbs 15:30

The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat.

Those of us that have studied the Bible for many years have learned to trust its truthfulness without question.  Gone are the days of constant doubt and wondering what parts of the Bible can be trusted.  I have found it to be true by study and experience.

The Bible bears any scrutiny.  It is the inspired and preserved Word of God.  I am amazed at how many times throughout history the Bible has been challenged only to be proven right in measurable areas such as history, archeology and science.  What an amazing book!

The verse mentioned above has brought a smile to my face many times.  I know a body can be fat, but can bones be fat?  At times in my life my fluctuating weight has made me wonder if I might be the poster child for fat bones!

I have never doubted that the Bible is correct in this verse.  But I confess I did not understand the analogy.  We all know the immediate benefits of good news.  It certainly has physical and mental blessings.  However, today as I was studying for a message, I learned an interesting fact.  One of the purposes of human bones is fat storage.  Yes, you read that right.  We all know that bones contain red marrow that produces blood cells.  Yet I learned today that bones also contain yellow marrow.  This yellow bone marrow stores fat.  The yellow bone marrow can become red marrow to help in blood cell production in the event of a great loss of blood or anemia.

Thousands of years before fancy microscopes and expensive tests God told us this medical fact!

Once again, the Bible amazes me!  God is good to give us His written Word.

Read it today and be amazed.

Simple Outline of John 3:16

John 3-16 verseHere is a simple outline of John 3:16 that the Lord gave me while I was going over my sermon for tomorrow morning.  I have never preached it, but I look forward to doing so one day as the Lord leads.  I sensed that I should post this now. I pray it will be a blessing to someone tonight.  If you would take the time to add substantiating verses, it would be a great teaching/preaching help.  Let me know what you think.

God bless.

Benefits of Scripture Memory

Benefits of Memorizing Scripture
Why Memorize Scripture?Bible Title Page

It is an odd reality that many who believe the Bible to be the inspired and preserved Word of God, and sole authority for faith and practice, often overlook the necessity of committing Scripture to memory. Although we have almost unlimited access to the written Word in America, there are times when we need the help of Scripture and can’t put our hands on it at that moment. We should have a systematic plan to memorize it so that it is available in every situation. Furthermore, God’s Word dwelling in our heart has powerful benefits that many take for granted and of which others are ignorant. Below is a list of empowering benefits of memorizing the Bible. At the end of the list is a link to hear the audio sermon that expounds this outline.

Memorizing God’s Word:

Helps you to abide in Christ.

Joh 15:5  I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

Empowers your prayer life

Joh 15:7  If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

Convicts us to obey and demonstrate our love for God.

Joh 15:10  If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.

Results in a joyful heart.

Joh 15:11  These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

Imparts wisdom.

Col 3:16  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Teaches us as we go through life.

Col 3:16  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Corrects us when we stray.

Col 3:16  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Inspires us to sing about God.

Col 3:16  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Generates faith during quotation.

Rom 10:17  So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Makes strong.

1Jn 2:14  I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.

Helps overcome the wicked one.

1Jn 2:14  I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.

Nourishes growth.

1Pe 2:2  As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

Benefits last forever.

1Pe 1:23  Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
1Pe 1:24  For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
1Pe 1:25  But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

Brings prosperity.

Psa 1:2  But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
Psa 1:3  And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Causes cleansing.

Psa 119:9  Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.

Brings peace and emotional stability.

Psa 119:165  Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.

Psa 119:11  Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

Builds us up.

Wow!  What christian wouldn’t want the above mentioned blessings?  You can start right now.  Just pick a verse, write it on a 3×5 card or paper, look at it throughout the day, and meditate upon it often.  If you don’t know where to start, ask God to lead you to the verse He knows that you need.

The verses God lead me to work on today are below.  They have been an encouragement to me several times today already.

Isa 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
Isa 26:4 Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:

Hindrances to Soul Winning

Trust in the LORD

Trust in the Lord

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
(Proverbs 3:5)

This familiar Scripture has been convicting the hearts of God’s people for 3,000 years. The simplicity of it’s wording belies the power of it’s message. TRUST IN THE LORD. Four simple words that cut to the heart of the great human problem. We just don’t trust the LORD.

How much better would our world be if people would just trust in the LORD? How much improved and blessed would your life be if you would just trust in the LORD? If we trust in the LORD’S gospel, we can be forgiven, made a child of God and live eternally with Him in Heaven. If we trust in the LORD’S Bible we learn all that is necessary for faith and practice that leads to an abundant life on earth now. Oh, why don’t we trust Him?  The heart of man is deceitful and will lead us to misplace our trust in people and things that are not worthy of it. Satan knows the wonderful everlasting results of our trust in the LORD and works diligently to erode it.  Nevertheless, the Bible commands us to trust in the LORD.

The Hebrew word for trust in this verse means to trust, to be confident, to be sure. We can trust the Lord! He has proven Himself faithful countless times during the history of the world. If you could see the overview of your life clearly, you would see that God has never failed you or let you down. Any perceived instance of the LORD failing you will be cleared up beyond a doubt in Heaven. So why not choose to trust Him now? Why not confess to the Lord that in your human reasoning it feels like He has let you down or forsaken you, but you choose to believe the Bible and trust in the LORD.

Trust is a choice.  Every situation affords us an opportunity to believe what God says in the Bible or reject it.  Doubt is an opportunity for faith.  Choose to trust in the LORD.  What freedom we find when we choose to trust in the LORD! Break the chains of doubt that hold you captive in fear, negativity, anxiety, and disbelief! Stop leaning on your own limited understanding and trust the limitless God of creation. It is easy to have a small measure of faith in the Lord that lulls us into a sense that we are sufficiently trusting Him.  We “trust” the LORD when everything is going well, the family is healthy and there is money in the bank.  We trust Him when we can see how trials will work out for good in the end.  Then we fall apart when we can’t understand why God is allowing a thing or how it will work out. This ought not to be!

My friend, choose to trust God in the darkest days of your life.  Choose to trust Him when it doesn’t make sense and you have no idea how it will work out.  Choose to trust Him when others around you tell you to “curse God and die” as Job’s wife counseled him.  Remember that your extremity is God’s opportunity!  Every affliction is an opportunity for faith.  Your faith is the platform that God will use to glorify Himself to the world around you.  Don’t comfort yourself with faith in a few compartmentalized areas of your life, but trust in the LORD with all your heart. Root out any doubt in your life then confront it with faith and convert it to trust in the LORD.

The Privilege of Prayer

The Privilege of Prayer

“After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.”   Matthew 6:9happy man outdoor

Have you considered what a privilege it is to  pray to God?  Too often we see prayer as something that we “must” do, or as a task we have on a to-do list.  Prayer is so much more!  It is a great privilege!  Consider that in many of the world’s religions, access to a deity something to be earned.  Some require personal sacrifice of money, possession or hardship to get the “attention” of the deity. Some teach that they must go to a designated person or priest to get their prayers heard.  Still others teach that you must go to a specific place such as a church or temple for the god to hear.  Some even require a sacrifice of blood for difficult requests!

Compare that to the privilege of Christian prayer.  We have unfettered access to God Almighty through Jesus Christ.  We can pray about anything, during anytime, being anywhere and be heard by the Creator of the universe.  This is a radical doctrine when compared to false religions!  There are no hoops to jump through, no places to travel, no priest to consult.  When you were saved by faith in Jesus Christ, you were given a direct line to God.  No voicemail, call waiting or answering service.  Just God and you.  God wants to hear from you today.  He cares about the smallest details of your life. He wants to be the first person you speak to in the morning and the last person you speak to at night.  He desires that you be connected to Him throughout the day in a spirit of unceasing prayer.  Today, take your burdens to Him and they will be lighter.  Ask Him for the needs of this day and you will receive them.  Delight in the great privilege God has given you and pray!
